Hello and Welcome to my site.

I am a former professional rugby league player who played at international level for Great Britain. I played club rugby league for Oldham, Widnes and Huddersfield in England and Newcastle Knights in Australia.When my professional playing days were over I moved to Ireland, and as well as playing and coaching Rugby Union I also represented Ireland at Rugby League and was involved in the development of Rugby league in Ireland in various positions, including Director of Coaching and Student representative. As well as being a player and a referee I have coached various club, student, provincial and International Irish rugby league teams.

My Rugby Union coaching covers a broad spectrum. From introducing school children to tag and touch rugby in PE classes, through club coaching at every underage level, through to adult Junior Rugby teams, right up to being a specialist defensive coach for Matt Williams at Leinster and Declan Kidney at Munster.

My experience as a player and a coach in different environments and countries has given me a unique perspective on coaching both codes of rugby.

Added to this experience I have a BSc in Health, Fitness and Leisure and subjects covered in that degree course were instructional methodsSubjects covered in that degree course included Instructional Methods, Sports Coaching, Exercise Leadership and Children’s Games Sports and Leisure Management, Sports Development and Strategic Planning. Sports Injuries and Sports Massage. Talent Identification, Performance Training, Sports Psychology, Periodisation and Notational analysis.

Over the years I have done various coaching courses including: IRFU and RFL rugby coaching, GAA football, Swim Ireland Teacher, and Speed Agility and Quickness (SAQ)

All these experiences have helped to shape my coaching philosophy, which is very much focused on getting players to use their attributes to get them and their team fulfilling their potential, and enjoying themselves at training and playing
